Slut på spelmonopol?
Slut på spelmonopolet? skall det stå :-
Inom ett rätt snar framtid eller?:-))
Detta är ju otroligt bra för de privata spelbolagen!
"In an effort to maintain their gambling monopoly the Swedish government has virtually crippled Svenska Spel as a business, with the company now neither in a position to capitalise on its monopoly status, nor free to compete fairly online with other European operators."
Svenska Spel Withdraws Online Casino Application
06 September 2007
Svenska Spel has withdrawn its application for an online casino and stopped development of all new gambling products in the face of growing criticism of its monopoly status.
Despite last weeks rejection by the Swedish government to comply with a European Commission request to open up its gambling market to competition from other European operators, Svenska Spel?s future looks far from certain.
In an attempt to demonstrate that the state-owned operator is striving to limit the potential for problem gambling, thereby justifying its monopoly, Svenska Spel has been forced to abandon future expansion plans while the government defends its position against the European Commission.
Speaking about the withdrawal of the license application, Svenska Spel CEO Jesper Kärrbrink said, "We do not think it is realistic to get an approval from the government at this time and hence we have withdrawn this application. What we can do is to continue developing the games we have, but any new development will not take place. We will also not launch any new games which risk increasing the number of gambling addicts."
In an effort to maintain their gambling monopoly the Swedish government has virtually crippled Svenska Spel as a business, with the company now neither in a position to capitalise on its monopoly status, nor free to compete fairly online with other European operators.
"It is obvious that we risk ending up in a vacuum over the next couple of years," added Kärrbrink, "and it is clear that we will slip behind in international gambling developments"

S. Africa?s Parliament Approves Bill to Legalise Online Gaming
12 September 2007
After much wrangling between members of the South African Parliament and the Department for Trade and Industry, the National Gambling Amendment Bill was finally passed yesterday by Parliament.
The Bill which seeks to legalise and regulate online gaming in South Africa will require operators to apply for a national license to cover the interactive gambling operator, equipment and personnel. The Bill also includes a provision to require gambling operators to locate interactive gambling equipment within the Republic of South Africa.
Gaming Intelligence Group reported last month on moves by members of the ANC to block the Bill, which they believed promoted ?an evil activity?, with many within the country calling on the government to follow the example of the United States and outlaw online gaming entirely.
Following yesterdays approval of the Bill by Parliament, it must now pass to the National Council of Provinces for approval before finally being signed into law by President Thabo Mbeki.
