RAWALPINDI, Pakistan (AP) -- A suicide bomber attacked supporters of Pakistani opposition leader Benazir Bhutto as they were leaving a rally on Thursday and at least 20 people were feared dead, police and witnesses said. Bhutto was not harmed, an aide said.

An Associated Press reporter at the scene saw body parts and flesh scattered at the back gate of the Liaqat Bagh park in Rawalpindi where the rally was held. He counted about 20 bodies, including police, and could see many other wounded.

The road outside was stained with blood and people screamed for ambulances. Others gave water to the wounded lying in the street. The clothing of some of the victims was shredded and people put party flags over their bodies.

The bomb went off just minutes after Bhutto spoke to thousands of supporters and she appeared to be the target of the attack. Farahtullah Babar, the spokesman for her party, said her vehicle was about 50 yards away from blast which went off as she was leaving the rally venue.

"She had just crossed the gate when we heard a deafening sound. We could feel its impact but by the grace of God, she is safe," he said.

Police official Saud Aziz said it was a suicide attack.

If the election is rigged, as expected, public outrage is likely to erupt. Bhutto says she won?t join an illegitimate government. But her niece, Fatima Bhutto, says, "She?ll work with anyone to get back into power."

Det är sällan jag sörjer en världspolitikers bortgång, men Benazir Bhutto saknar jag verkligen. Nu känns det högst osäkert ang Pakistans närmaste tid. Det är ju ändå en kärnvapenmakt som inte har kontroll över sina landsändar (läs bergländerna).

Pakistans missiler har inte räckvidd nog för att kunna dimpa ner varsomhelst. Shaheen-II, som enligt wikipedia är de som i dagsläget når längst, kan nå upp till 250 mil.

Det är inte speciellt lätt för vem som helst att bara plocka med sig dem till vilken plats man vill och avfyra därifrån och därigenom uppnå en större räckvidd.

Jag borde inte kommentera werik1, men hjälp, vad har huruvida Osama är död att göra med huruvida bekämpningen av global terrorism är bedrägeri?

Det är inte direkt så att någon påstått att det finns en enda terrorist och att man kan sluta bry sig om terrorism när han är död (sedan gäller förstås att "kriget mot terrorismen" är skadligt och används som ursäkt för att montera ner integritetsskydd världen över, men det är en annan sak).
