Massive amounts of CDS to be settled this evening
The relentless selling yesterday could in part be explained by a massive USD 450bn in Lehman CDS is apparently due to be settled by this evening as financial companies are being forced to sell assets in order to pay up their obligation, according to research firm Gavekal.
If this is the case and the settlement goes through we could see an easing of the market and at least a temporarily bottom in equity markets. If this does not settle we are likely to continue to be caught in the credit crunch.
