Chart of the day
With rising interest rates, rising commodity prices, geopolitical crises, etc.; investors have a great deal to be concerned with today. Today's chart highlights one bright spot in the market - earnings. Despite a flat yield curve (eliminates the profitable domestic carry trade) and rising commodity prices, corporate America has found a way to grow earnings. In fact, earnings growth is currently above average growth for this decade as well as above average growth since 1950.
Notes:
- S&P 500 earnings growth is the 12-month rate of change in 'as reported' S&P 500 earnings.
- Earnings were not adjusted for inflation.

Today, the Dow made another post-recession high. For some added perspective, today's chart illustrates the Dow's uptrend (albeit a mild one). It is of interest that the Dow is currently testing resistance (red line). The overall trend, however, remains up until proven otherwise.
